Book Review: The Spectacular Now

Bonjour, lovelies! Today I have a book review on 'The Spectacular Now' by Tim Tharp. Let me tell you that this is completely different from the books I normally read, which usually fall into the category of teen romance, but I thought it would be worth a try!

This story follows Sutter, a senior in high school with a drinking problem, through his partying and his relationships with his friends, his girlfriends, and his family. When he meets Aimee after a night of drinking, he decides to help her become more confident. As Sutter's relationship with Aimee grows, he has to choose between starting a new life or living in the spectacular now.

Sutter is an incredibly interesting character. He definitely embraces what is going on around him and lives in the moment. He has no sense of the future, which results in many conflicts between him and his girlfriends. He was very captivating. I actually almost stopped reading the book a few times, but I continued because I just had to know what would happen to Sutter!

I would recommend this for anyone - teens and adults - who are tired of the same kind of novel. This is definitely a book to make you think. I couldn't help but feel that I needed to be more like Sutter, of course, without a 7 Up and whiskey mixture in hand, and that I needed to stop worrying about the future so often. There are so many lessons people can take out of this, whether it's about taking things as they come, or even the exact opposite- learning to focus on the future just a little more.

To wrap it up, this wasn't the best book I've ever read, but it was definitely not the worst.
